What is an Ebony Alert?

California’s Ebony Alert system is used to help find missing Black youth and young women, ages 12 to 25, who are reported missing and considered endangered.

The program was created to bring more attention to disappearances that have historically received less coverage. Like an Amber Alert, it uses the CHP’s emergency alert network and partner media outlets to spread information quickly. Depending on the case, alerts may appear on highway message signs, on social media, and in news coverage.

How you can help

Sharing verified information from official sources, such as the CHP and the Oakland Police Department, can help the alert reach more people.

Because details can change quickly in missing-person cases, the public is urged to rely on official updates and avoid spreading unconfirmed rumors. If you share the alert on social media, include the key details: the child’s name, age, description, last known location, and the instruction to call 911 if seen.

What we don’t know yet

As of this report, police have not released additional information about the circumstances of White’s disappearance, including who may have last seen the child or whether anyone else is involved. This story will be updated as new information becomes available from the CHP or the Oakland Police Department.
